Dr. Krystyne Mendoza, PhD, LPC, NCC, RPT
Again, welcome to Pathway Counseling Services, PLLC. I am thankful that you have taken the time to visit my site. I have designed it to be as informative as possible. I hope that I can be of service to you and your children. I imagine if you have found yourself at this site, you are looking for a counselor to help you and your kiddos. Whether some recent event has been overwhelming or there are just a few maintenance things to address, I am here to help.
One of the most important things in working with a counselor, as supported by the research, is the relationship. While I have an array of techniques and experience, the most important thing to me is that you and your child feel comfortable in my office, where I work to create a safe, supportive, non-judgmental, positive environment that encourages success.
While I have always enjoyed working with children, my journey as a counselor started in 2015, when I began my training. I started my professional journey in the Great State of Texas, graduating with my Masters degree in Psychology from West Texas A&M University in 2015. In 2018, I graduated with my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas Tech University. I started my clinical practice working with children, later specializing in early childhood trauma. I have extensive experience in working with children and adolescents. I am a registered play therapist and nationally certified counselor. I have served as an advocate for child abuse awareness and I continue to publish, present, and research relevant methods that aim to help ensure we are using the best practices to help our youth. I relocated to Colorado in 2019 to start Pathway Counseling Services, PLLC.
I conceptualize psychotherapy from a strength-based, active psychodynamic, person-centered approach. Within this framework, I generally approach therapy from an integrative theoretical orientation, which means that I endeavor to choose theoretical approaches suited for your child, pertaining to their particular presenting issues and concerns. I believe in the power of play and feel that it is the most effective method in working with children. I utilize Jungian play therapy to embrace the developmental level at which your child is currently functioning. I provide trauma-informed care and believe in the efficacy of strength-based principles, which empower children and teens to become their best selves. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative task, in which I encourage the child to take an active role in working toward their goals, both within and between sessions.
In my experience, I know that parents often encounter a certain level of hesitancy and anxiety as they seek out a counselor for their child. I will do whatever I can to answer questions you may have to ensure that I can help you and your child on their journey. It is not lost on me that parenting is a tough feat! I also offer services in helping parents with parenting skills, techniques, and strategies to further enhance the child and caregiver relationship.
Essentially, I am here to serve you; to meet you where you are, to humbly join you on your journey, to aid you in creating your pathway to success.
Please feel free to contact me to schedule a free phone consultation so we can get to know each other a little before we schedule a meeting.
